Mentoring Scheme

We are also running a Mentoring programme where we recruit and train future mentors and mentees to help our new service users.
This scheme assists young people with their concerns (like health-related issues) by providing a mentor to guide them through their problems.

Opening Speech by the President of the Igbomina Descendants Association at the launching of the Young  and Adult  Forum.  Saturday 2nd November 2013 at Wally Foster Community Centre. Marsh Hill. Homerton Road. London E9 5QB.

Good evening everyone and thank you for honouring our invitation to the Igbomina Descendants Association Young and Adults Forum.

On behalf of IDA UK Executive I welcome you all to this event.

First I want to acknowledge the honour given to us by our main speakers:

  1. Mathy Lisika-Minsende. Math is the Director of Whathejobisthis. A Career Development Cosultancy. She has more than 14 years’ experience as a coach and trainer and mentor.
  2. Lauren Tobias. Lauren is the Chief Executive of Volunteer Centre Hackney.

Mission.To make Hackney a place of understanding and mutual respect where the culture of volunteering has a positive impact.

VCH aims to be a benchmark of best practice in volunteering and organisation management. We are match makers, putting people together to improve each other’s lives – whether those people are organisations who need volunteers, individuals who want to become volunteers or people who need support in the community. We support local groups to get the very best out of their volunteers and develop connections and networks to champion good volunteering practice across Hackney.

  1. Edwina Momoh. Edwina is a Trainer, marketing consultant and Mentor. She is an experienced empowerment trainer, a trained teacher and project manager.
  2. Dr (Mrs) Omotayo Kash-Oladosu is a Paediatric Practitioner and the Secretary General of the association. She will be giving the Vote of Thanks and Closing remark.
  3. All members of the Igbomina Descendants Association, the Kwara State and Nigerian delegates, all other stakeholders and all our guests.
The Igbominas are a Yoruba speaking people in Kwara and Oshun states of Nigeria.

The Igbomina Descendants Association was formed over 20 years ago and has its first meeting on the 8th of October 1990.

Some of the aims and objectives of the Association are:

  • To provide a forum for the deliberation and discussion of issues that affects the welfare and well being of all members and indeed of our mother land
  • To promote opportunities to facilitate economic, political cultural and social interaction among all Igbomina Descendants living in the United Kingdom, Nigeria and worldwide
  • To enable the social integration and education of our children in accordance with our traditional ethics and customs.

It is my sincere hope that the Forum this evening will provide all stakeholders an opportunity to work in partnership with us towards achieving the organisations aims and objectives.

Once again I thank you all for coming and I hope you will enjoy the evening and also seize the opportunity to effectively network with other attendees.
